December night, a bus stop, a lonely child
Mom again forgot to pick her up
Through mounds of dirt covered in snow
The shivering little girl walks home
Softly singing a lullaby
Moon and stars lighting her way
Danger
Run
Trapped
Bearded faces, cold glittering eyes
Hard hands pulling her to the ground
Hot breath in her face
A mocking voice
"Welcome to love, darling"
A scream of terror no one hears
Fearful eyes, filled with tears
Pain slicing through her slender frame
Changing faces, brutal hands
Menacing laughter
The pain stays the same
Innocence is ripped away
Bloodstained snow
Consciousness flees
They walk away
Her spirit looks back at the battered child
On the crimson snow, left to die
Eyes wide with terror staring back
Falling snow covering the crime
She can not leave her just like that
So young, so hurt, she decides to act
She creates in a corner of her mind
Around the slowly dying child
A sun-filled meadow, a healing mist
A blanket of sleep and gentle dreams
Dragons, elves and sprites to guard her
And gently places in her arms
Her innocence,
Her shattered soul
Her broken heart
Softly crooning a lullaby
She builds a fortress around the sleeping child
In circles she walks, raising the walls
To preserve the child, that she once was
She bans the memories of that night
Guards what is hidden from prying eyes
Found at last, frozen and pale
Barely alive, they rush her away
So many questions, no answers come
She had banned it all from her conscious mind
Long forgotten that fateful night
Those brutal faces that left her to die
Forgotten the terror
Forgotten the pain
Crimson snow fading away
Years pass by, no one speaks
Of things best forgotten, ghosts best left asleep
Time heals all wounds, or so they say
What a charming child, gentle and bright
Just look at that smile....
And no one can see, what was stripped away
Like Phoenix from ashes there rose
A young woman, strong and bright
Confident, determined, ruthless perhaps
She walks where she wills, does what she wants
Never looks back, as she wanders away
From the broken hearts, she left in her wake
Life is a play
Love is a game
Happiness is a fairy tale
In the hidden fortress within her mind
Lies sleeping, the child she once had been
Her heart and soul, her innocence
Dreaming of a life that will never be
Locked away from prying eyes
Guarded by dragons, elves and sprites.
