Shadows cast upon the wall
Labored breathing with chest's rise and fall
The monitor signals each fleeting beat
As peace the soul tries to meet
Images of times gone by
Comes and goes, the soul does try
To see the good in what has been
Wanting it all to start again
Time passes slowly it surely seems
In and out of bitter sweet dreams
The monitor keeping its vigil true
As the shadows grow longer
And day is through
The dreams come from the heart
As the dreams again do start
Memories that have always been
So very dear deep within
Dreams of wishing once again
To see the smile to touch the face
To feel the warmth of her embrace
If only fading ears could hear
That gentle voice so very dear
The tears again do appear
From closed eyes with no one near
Just the shadows and dark room
The nights lonely gloom
The monitor keeping a watchful eye
On a heart about to die
His heart now becomes aware
Of their last meeting,
Her standing there
And the saying of good bye
All the tears they both did cry
And how was he to know that day
Would be the last time
He would hear her say

Now be strong, and please go
The years of emptiness again descend
As the time starts to end
To her his love he does send
Feeble lips whisper low

Now silence fills the lonely room

The only sound that now is heard
The monitor's mournful cry
