Springtime
Betty Hattersley
Would you like to walk with me, along a country lane?
No need for your umbrella, I don't think that it will rain.
Mornings are much lighter now, the breeze is not so cold,
The sun peeps out so brightly, around the clouds unfold.

Look at all those little buds spreading everywhere,
The hedgegrow is so pretty, a splash of colour here and there.
Over in the meadow, the baby lambs are out,
Not moving far from mother, but love to prance about.

Daffodils are blooming, dancing with the grass,
It's amazing how they multiply, growing in a mass.
Birds are singing sweetly, perched upon a bough,
The fresh smell of the springtime, is really with us now.

A time of new beginnings, the start of life anew,
Eggs are waiting to be hatched, how many? one or two.
Horses in a field of green, feeding on fresh hay,
A blanket covers over them, I see they're dapple grey.

Miles of different shades to view, a perfect patchwork quilt,
In yonder distance I can see, a shed for cows, just built.
The farmer has been busy, ploughing acre's since the dawn,
Driving his big tractor and planting lots of corn.

Look there is a duck pond, hens and chickens to,
Across the hedge I hear a noise, what's all the hullabaloo?
A pigsty full of piglets, all waiting to be food,
Mother looks on patiently, her hungry little brood.

Just around the corner, a tree has fallen down,
A piece of log is left there, bark of rustic brown.
Lets sit for just a moment, reflecting all the view,
How everything is beautiful, fresh and very new.

I hear a distant chiming, that's carried in the breeze,
The village church and steeple see shining through the tree's.
Church bells ringing gently, for local folk to know,
It's time to get together, their thanks they want to show.

Time to stroll back homewards, leaving nature to it's chores,
I'm glad the springtime keeper, has opened up it's doors.
So many things to gaze about, wonders everywhere,
A start to all four seasons, each one a different flair.
