The cat is quite a wondrous creature
He's inspired man for years
He's brought us joy and brought us luck
And gave names to our fears.
A cat will oft entrance you
With grace, or kitten games
But when you try to please him
No interest does he claim.
A cat will sit and watch you
His master and his prize
But moves not when you summon him
And blinks not at your lies.
A cat responds to stroking
His response is nearly a sin
While you scratch behind his ears
His claws are digging in.
The cat doth stalk at midnight
In the moonlight of his dreams
The golden eyes that love you
Would also hear you scream.
