Volcanos erupt,
Coalmines cave in,
Forests in flames,
Floods in whirlpools;
Nature's wrath in Dance of Death:
Man looks on,
Vulnerable, desperate,
Ineffective in his Superhuman Being.
The Elements whirl round and round,
Their rhythm primordial,
Unyielding to human orchestra,
Insubordinate to human power.
Earth, Air, Fire and Water, Elements Four in the West;
Prithvi, Vayu, Agni, Varuna, their parallels in the East
That has Aakash, too, one more Element,
Which makes the Elements Five/ the Panchabhootha.
East or West, Four or Five, English or Sanskrit,
The Elements, contemptuous of human prowess,
Unleash their destructive power,
Power that no human prowess-
Nuclear warheads or chemical arsenals-
Can block or destroy!
Vengeful, implacable, the Elements,
Resolved they are not to let go,
Their turn now to avenge
All that Man has done to Them!
Natural Calamities and Man's Powerlessness
