As I Wander
Lilaznceltdrgn |
I wonder as I wander
As I wander 'round this world
Will there ever be a time
When all the truth unfurls
That men and women will all be equal
When the baby never cries
When mankind no longer suffers
As the stars twinkle in the sky
Brightly, Patiently
Waiting for the song to sing
Of daffodils and little things
That most people often take for granted
And the conquering hero comes home
Years older in his eyes
A tired, withered old man
Recalling a time when he was a lad
Barely grown but oh, the adventures he had
Climbing an old oak tree
To see a father squirrel gather nuts for his family
Recalling with fondness his old childhood sweetheart
Married to another
Who was too impatient to wait for him to return home
As he promised he would
A decade of years ago in her mind's eye
What was only a few years past
Weeping for what she has
A drunken, wife-beating husband
And mourning for what she could've had
For what she has now lost
To her selfishness and also to another
His life and heart taken by the sea
The comfort to many a weary soul
Lured by the thought of loneliness
And heartaches being evermore relieved
As I wonder as I wander 'round this
Dark and dreary world
As mothers cry and babies die
Their husbands lost to war
Their sons and daughters given up
To ease the ache of gore and blood
To see the pearl-white dove soar
High above the clouds
Free of evil
Its pureness making all forget
Of times long past and of regret
As I wonder
Evermore.
