A Fireman's Life
Tammy Soleno
In the dead of night
Waking up to a siren scream
Quick dress and down the pole
Hoping it's a bad dream

Racing down streets so fast
I can smell the smoke
We pull up to a thunderous blaze
My eyes burn I start to choke

I have a baby at home she beautiful
Urgency rush I got to go in at all cost
I enter this tomb of heat and pray
That this child will not be lost

I heard a faint whimpering
That turned into crying loud
Yes, I can hear her I felt joy
So many embers and flames I plowed

I see her under the table blacken little face
From all the smoke I got to act fast
Scoping her up in my fireman arms
Running out I hear a blast

Not looking behind I just ran
And handed the precious bundle to Mom
Thank you for all you have done
And over the was the calmest of calm

It's my job we were lucky today
I have seen so many children fade away
From the fire and flames that consumes
It feels good to be able to save a child today
