Flickering Flame
Brian L. Davis
|
To build a heart into a raging blaze
You must study fire, smoke, and haze
The flickering flame of a campfire can teach
As to the sky it's flame wants to reach
A fire only wants to consume
It will feed until it brings about it's doom
The flame can produce heat for a cost
For every b.t.u. that is gained another is lost
It can draw you close but you can't touch
It reminds me so much of us
The flame will always ask for a raise
It takes fuel for heat, smoke, and haze
In it's heart is only greed
You become a slave to it's need
Watching a campfire in it's firery dance
I was consumed and fell into a trance
My mind wondered and was lost in space
And my heart began to take it's place
I had to follow where it would go
Without my mind I couldn't say no
I was taken to a place where Angels dwell
And the story of my life they began to tell
I was so humbled and felt so ashame
And for my sins I had to explain
Without my mind I couldn't lie
And my heart quit beating so I could die
I had to die for my new birth
So I could do better here on earth
The fire in our heart must warm our soul
And just like a child it needs to grow
The fuel you feed it will determine how tall
And the fuel can determine how far you can fall
I read a man cannot remake himself without suffering
For he is both the marble and the sculptor
This might be true in many cases
But not after you have seen Angel's faces
For everything gained something is lost
But a saved soul is worth the cost
I now have nothing to loose and all to gain
For I found my soul in the flickering flame
