There was a time that I recall
When life was not so rough.
A time when smiles came easy;
things were good, and people weren't so tough.
There was a time That I recall
when laughter set the mood.
There was a time that I recall
when my heart was sate with joy.
I'd wake each morning of each day,
life's wonders to enjoy.
There was a time that I recall
when I knew the way.
Yet in my present life confused
with sorrow and misgiving.
I find I do not stand as tall
as in my past life's living.
There was a time that I recall
when I thought I knew it all.
I pray in the future that I might find
new things to cherish and to hold.
Things like comfort, peace, and joy,
like in gone days of old.
So that there will be a time that I recall
when all was worth the pain.
