The tree was right above us
And you lay in my arms
The night was bitter cold but you were warm
I searched your eyes the universe for stars and moon and tears
But I knew you were mine forever more
The packages were a sweet collage ribbons paper bows and yes
There was one just there for you my heart my love I must confess
The warmth of you was all I knew passion such like in a dream
Exploding with the winter wind the scattered snow by frozen streams
I heard you whisper tenderly
And the fragrance of the room framed your joyful cinnamon kiss
The wonder faded all too soon
With each Christmas I think back and wonder where you are
Sometimes I see a glimpse of you in some passionate falling star
Or maybe it is that my eyes see dimmer
And I guess that memory sustains me while alone I do my best
But the teapot is whistling and
The canned soup is on simmer a single candle burns tonight its flicker getting dimmer
But even as the darkness falls upon me
This I know the memory will brighten anywhere my soul will go
The now is all we have the moment. Life is too short but
Memories prevail long after packages and ribbons have been thrown away...
When you give your heart you give the best...
