My Dad's Kind Of Love
Susan Candreva

As a child, I didn't think my dad loved me
But, now that I am older, he did, I see
He just wasn't an affectionate man
And that was hard for me to understand

I needed to be hugged and kissed
All my life that was missed
At night, I was never tucked into bed
And "I love you" was never said

I wanted a dad that was gentle and kind
Not one that always made me mind
I wanted him to laugh and play
Not just word hard every day

But he showed his love, in many ways
It was just those words he couldn't say
I know he loved me, but just couldn't show how
As I child I didn't understand that, but I do now

He always did the very best that he can
And was always there to lend a hand
When I needed him, he was there
It was just his feelings he didn't share

Now he's not here anymore
He went up through Heaven's door
So when I think of him up above
I always send him all my love

Not all dads are the same
So appreciate the one who gave you his name
Tell him you love him, please don't wait
Because some day he won't be around and then it will be too late
