Poetry From The Soul
Pearl Watley Mitchell |
My grandchild inquired of me Nanny,
where do poems come from?
Well, Baby, some form from folks who mourn
Others rise from deep within the heart
where conscience first is born and
some come from the inner soul
that Father God gave to man
I think the tooth fairy often brings one
and the sandman scatters them around
they appear randomly in dreams and in good times,
it seems the Easter bunny hides them in baskets
tennis players catch them in rackets
they float down like dew from sunsets
and rise early with the morning sun
they twinkle up among the stars
are found in the Milky Way so far
and in candy bars, cars, fairs, and pairs
they breed in cemeteries and churches
up in the trees and on front porches
in war trenches and hospitals too
in rainforests and great big zoos
in a grandmother's lap and a child's kiss
wherever faith and love are apparent
a poem naturally becomes inherent.
