One gray fall day
Two ginger colored kittens
Named Kit and Mitzen
Came to play
In the straw yellow thatch.
Kit was peering into the grass
His ears slowly folding
The fir fluffing down his back
He saw Old Mr. Hopper
On a small clover patch
Taking a midmorning nap.
Twitching his muscles
Balancing his bounce
Kit was going to surprise
That cagey old toad
With his mighty cat pounce.
Just as he set his claws
Deep into the damp earth
Readying his mighty cat leap
He heard a splash splash
Followed by a rather loud splash.
It seems that in her haste
While giving chase
To a flittering flying bug
Mitzen happened to
Land upon a delicate lily pad.
Meeeooowww
Came her loud kitten wail
Mitzen was wet everywhere
Except for her left ear
And the tip of her ginger colored tail.
All the creatures tried to console
Poor fickle little Mitzen
But it seemed nothing would do
Until the clouds broke
Letting the sunshine through.
Mitzen looked to the sky in awe
She jumped up onto all four paws
As fast as she could she ran towards home
She had to tell them too
That this was
The day the sky turned blue.
