He rest in tier above the ground,
With garden paths beneath His feet
And scents of flowers all around,
Alas! to smell their fragrance sweet.
A final breath to all will come,
In reverence shown, to herewith lies,
A tribute to this flesh and bone,
That lays beneath fond azure skies.
To draw askance of passers-by,
Whose solemn phrase in spirits wrote,
Terse passages that never to die,
Words be etched in stone, I quote,
"Remember well this simple man,
Whose breath was ended just for you,
Return earth's treasures to this land
And never give the devil due."
