Dark Love
Colette M. Friedman |
I am to be the strength, like the universe I am to control
I am to be the backbone of all, no reversal of role
I am to be the mediator, as you constantly ask of me
I am to go about my day and assume my chores proudly
I am to try to look towards the sky for answers in the night
And I am to find them silently, no weariness penetrating the light
I am to assume my responsibilities without question of duty
I am to take a moment in the movement of days for beauty
And I am to be the rock, the rock which lies in your approval
And I am to weather the storms and winds of the most brutal
Dear, dark love
I am of the flesh and of the bone
No wonder why I keep searching, feeling inevitably alone
Somehow my life has slipped away, moved beyond my own
For I am the strength when your light becomes bleak
And I am the backbone you lean on when you are weak
And I have mediated beyond reason and rhyme
And assumed responsibility whether or not it is mine
But, my love,
My answers lie beneath and beyond this worlds duty
And I see clearly only when embraced with the skies eternal beauty
And only when I am weary
Can I awake with a renewed strength to see clearly
Dear, dark love
I am the rock, which is me, which is you
But if you leave me to die silently, weathered to the bone
Eventually, you will be the one searching for answers
Inescapably and silently alone
