The Dream Of An Indian
Aditi Narayan |
Life is so cruel, yet so kind.
I live like a princess,
While my fellow countrymen
Lay asleep on the dirty footpath.
What is expected of me?
Am I to grow to rule this land?
Am I to grow to live on the streets?
Or am I to grow to live as one with my
Countrymen?
"What will you have me do, my countrymen?..."
I spit in the face of hate,
I kiss the feet of love,
I bow my head in front of respect,
And I grasp the hand of happiness and prosperity.
I promise to make you proud, my countrymen.
Never will I let you fall -
I will hold you and guide you.
Do with me as you would with your servant,
For that is what I am -
Your servant, your daughter, your guide.
"Let me serve you, as you deserve."
Let me make you proud...
