Humble Pie
Brian L. Davis

It's not pumpkin
blueberry or cherry
Seldom as sweet
a strawberry
Even when
it makes you choke
You find a ray of hope
So we try
to take in stride
And learn to savor
our humble pie
When you learn
to humble yourself
It's usually for
someone else
That's why
you choose to chew
not just appease
You eat for peace
For yourself
and another fellow
Humble pie
will make you clever
It teaches that
your not always right
also others
Eat humble pie
By our families
friends and neighbors
It's served up
in all the flavors
Who knows what
the next humbling will be
To much to bare
an illness a blessing
A death a birth
may be
No reason or why
not hard to find
Humble Pie
