The Window
Monique Roberson

I could see love through the panes of the window
My breath frosting the glass as I breathed
The cold had come early and with it the snow
I braced myself against the wind as it shot up my sleeves

I knew I would have to prepare myself for the wait
My battered heart shuddered in the icy air
I hoped and prayed that I didn't get there too late
For its seems someone else was also there

Apparently love was being courted by another
This foe was more powerful than any I had encountered
It didn't seem fazed at all by the inclement weather
It played on loves sympathy and love became ensnared

Its trap was sound and love couldn't find release
I watched the struggle from outside the window
For a moment love appeared to reach for me
Then it settled into the embrace of my foe

I wanted so badly to free love from its captor
But I couldn't get past the glass of the window
And love wouldn't let me in the front door
So I had to be content with gazing through the window
