The Smell Of A Horse
Roger Belton |
The smell of a horse can be very coarse,
If you "think" only with your nose.
But, if you close your eyes and ignore the flies,
You'll be in for a most unexpected surprise.
Though that earthy aroma rising from the beast
Will never qualify as an olfactory feast,
It can take you back to a quieter place
Where life moved along at a slower pace.
Oh for the days when the horse was king,
When taking any trip was a major thing.
Moving along at a leisurely pace,
The horse clippity-clopping from place to place.
Never in a hurry, no traffic gridlock,
No blaring horns, or beating the clock.
No rush hour, or highway patrol,
No drunken drivers taking a toll.
No dependence on foreign oil,
Just oats & water from our home soil.
No license fees for bureaucrats to collect,
No worry about roads plagued by neglect.
No concern about any worn-out tires,
No need for tools, screwdrivers or pliers.
No blaring radios with basses thumping,
Just the sound of the horse, clumpity-clumping.
All these good things come readily to mind,
Because the smell of a horse is one of a kind.
So, when next you see Ol' Dobbin nearby,
Stop for a whiff...just give it a try.
You'll be convinced, upon experimentation,
That the smell of a horse is pure inspiration.
