Teaching The Stars How Not To Dance
Ivy Rose
|
With the eyes of my mind,
I see a bridge that spans the gap.
I yearn to teach one bird to sing
the tune of love, the tune of life.
I hear the tapping feet
of one thousand stars
that tap in rhythm to the beat
of a familiar path that never changes,
never varies. Could I teach
the stars how not to dance?
Could I teach your heart
what makes mine pulse?
It is the bird's song I am singing
that reaches to the core of your being.
It is the dance of passion,
a soiree of new love found,
that must unlearn
the ways of the past.
Yet learn its own destined rhythms
and find its own unique paths.
Inspired by: "I'd rather teach one bird to sing
than teach one thousand stars how not to dance."
e.e. Cummings, selected poems (1923-1858)
