On Hallowed Ground
Paul E. Berube

Scattered ashes tossed and strewn
On gusts they carry miles apart
Jagged scars and mortal wounds
Are captured by a fettered heart

Hearts have never broken bond
Their cleansing powers born to bleed
Silence silenced from beyond
Search to find a common deed

Deeds lay naked lines exposed
Corrupted minions corrosive goals
None within their rights disposed
Of guilty fare to purest soul.

Souls reposed on hallowed ground
Crosses bared but of name
Volleys fired still resound
Bugler taps a sweet refrain

Refrains sound for those interred
Banners furled encased to shrine
Memories sighed are most revered
Endless love for each defined

This poem is dedicated to my brother.
( US Marine Veteran ) Dec. 1941- Feb. 2005
