This morning ol' Teddie chased a cat.
She thought it great fun, doing that.
Across the road & under the fence,
That rotten cat fled in its own defense.
With Teddie hot upon its feet,
It wasted no time in making a retreat.
And, when all was said and done,
A happy Teddie decided she had won.
Though no cat fur lodged in her teeth,
She enjoys causing all such kitty grief.
When next we see our faithful hound,
She's sniffing excitedly along the ground.
Searching for the scent of the escaped feline,
"Search & destroy" uppermost in her mind.
With an excited wagging of her curly tail,
She cuts across a fresh enemy trail.
Off she bounds with a snort & a grunt,
Determined this will be a successful hunt.
Under cars, behind bushes and trees,
She'll find that critter wherever it flees!
After much time spent, sniffing here & there,
She spied the cat appearing out of nowhere.
Both hound & kitty make eye contact,
Standing stark still, as if frozen in the act.
Who will blink and be the first to make a move?
Who will decide she has the most to prove?
Without warning, and quick as a flash,
The kitty decides to make a desperate dash.
Now safely nestled in the nearest tree,
She grins at the dog thinking, "can't get to me!"
Not willing to give-up and admit defeat,
Teddie circled the tree on just her hind feet.
She grumbled & whined, jumping left and right,
Trying to scare that cat into taking flight.
But, nothing worked for the determined pup;
The cat wouldn't come down, and she couldn't go up!
So, she sat down as if for an extended stay,
Not willing to let it escape twice in one day.
Finally, my morning time growing short,
I dragged her home, with a bark & snort!
Taking one final look as she was led away,
A look that promised, "tomorrow's another day!"
