Stinging Distance
Wendy Isbell

A whispered goodbye, soft kiss on the cheek...
One last embrace, to last through the weeks.
There's a plane waiting near, a ticket in hand.
"Last call" echoes overhead, haunting where we stand.

Miles separate our two hearts...
the stinging distance, keeps us apart.
Phone calls, and memories help to pull us through.
Waiting never seemed so long before I fell for you.

You place your hands in mine and tell me with your eyes,
"though my heart aches now, with our love we'll survive".
I walk away from you, tears dropping to the ground,
knowing tonight I will be alone when I lay down.

When I fall asleep, I'll see the beauty of your eyes.
I'll hold you close, and hope the sun will never rise.
But with each day I know, sunlight will fill my room...
and I'll sadly rise awake to my bitter solitude.

Until that day is here,
when I can touch your gentle face,
I'll dream of you...
And relive that last parting embrace.
