Blackness envelops you
when the single word is spoken to you
by the medical specialist approximately
thirty days prior to Thanksgiving.
That word is feared by both women and
men…in some cases it is so dreaded by
both to the ultimate number;
In my case it was times five.
Cancer times five, at times, seem
like a fatal disease that
will mess with your mind,
soul and body in many ways.
It can often seem like a
python enshrouding your spirit
crushing it; sinking its terrible
fangs into it; attempting to devour it.
But then there is a positive side
to the human spirit that comes
for word at the time of deepest despair,
the time of darkness.
It is the upside of humor that
raises your consciousness to
new heights; new levels.
Like Gilda Radner I am using the
funny side of cancer to get through this
nightmare of cancer through both
life and the holidays.
