A Heart In Disarray
Wendy Isbell |
My heart enters a chaotic realm...
My mind is swallowed by confusion.
My vision wanes, as it blurs over in a sudden spell
The sound of laughter surrounds me.
It's origin, from those that peer through the water-colored wall,
to see the funny faces that are made,
as I swim in disappointment
searching for a reason to believe.
My heart is stricken ill with embarrassment,
knowing that they have found me at my weakest moment.
Anxiously I try to hide in vain...
For, wherever I go the laughter follows.
I realize I am bound to this suffering...
There is no escaping that which must consume.
So I allow the beast to devour me.
Feeling the sharp teeth pierce my chest,
as it drains my soul from it's cavity...
I spread myself out, and my body floats.
The laughter soon fades,
the disappointment is soon beneath me.
Realizing this, I rise and walk atop my flooded sorrow.
My vision then clears,
before me is a door in the water-colored wall,
that once completely surrounded me.
Seeing this, I breathe deep...
and take a step towards the opening.
