Lost In Darkness
Wendy Isbell

Like a poison that touches sweet tender lips,
draining the rose colored life they hold...
Spoken words have sentenced an ill abyss,
suffocating darkness, and blistering cold.

Scratching at walls unseen by the eye,
chip pieces of nail from weathering skin.
This is the place where insanity lies...
The place your forced to face your sin.

Foreign sounds echo harsh in one's ear...
mumbled insults with furious tone.
You sense a wicked presence is near...
There's no one in sight, but you're not alone.

Fog spreads thick throughout your mind,
tears trail down your soft, swollen cheeks...
You feel you've become even more confined,
seeming much farther from the freedom you seek.

Questions surround you, confusions increase.
How can happiness find what's so far away?
Trembling, you yearn for a moment of peace.
Knowing no one can help, you fill with dismay.

There is but one who holds the key you desire...
Only one to lift you from this torturing cell.
Stop looking around for someone to save you,
you must reach deep within and save yourself.
