Look into my eyes
What do you see?
I know you see pain
What you don't know, however,
Is that not all of that pain is about me
I carry your pain in my heart too
When you cry, I cry
When your heart breaks, my heart breaks
When you smile, I smile
I take your feelings and make them mine
It's not something I chose to do
It's how I was made
It's who I am
When you're in pain, I'm in pain too
And, when it's because of me,
You can't begin to imagine how I feel
I do not take joy in others' pain
I do not delight in others' misfortune
In fact, it's the opposite
I cry in secret
When I watch those I care about in pain,
I suffer too
Even when you don't come to me with your problems,
I know
I sense it
I hear it in your voice
I see it in your eyes
I feel it within my soul
You can not hide your feelings
Even the best of emotion maskers reveal themselves
Sometimes, I view this as a gift
When I take people's emotions and make them my own,
I have been able to help people heal
I have made people smile
But, there are times I view it as a curse
Sometimes, I become so overwhelmed
And, I just crash
But, you take the good with the bad
I have come to accept this is who I am
Ah, such is the life of an Empath
