Solitude
Michael Crawford

There is a place to be alone
A place to think about all
In front of a lake, you throw a stone
Soaring above, a bird sounds out a call

It's good to get away from the busy life
If only for just a day or so
For surely in this world, exists unnecessary strife
In the distance, I see a man in a boat with a silent row

I hear the wind passing through the alpine trees
Not a Airplane or machine can be heard
We should all try to take life with ease
Tomorrow I will move southward

I am surrounded with such beauty
At peace with myself
To be good to ourselves, is our duty
Be kind to others and also yourself

I witness nature around me, complete and timely
I sit on a downed log near an overlook
Yet life here moves so quietly
When I return to my camp, I will begin a good book

Travelers are approaching to seek the same
I wave to them, they wave back
This place of solitude has no name
Time to gather my things and feel the weight of my backpack

I will leave here feeling refreshed for another week
I will be back, this is for sure
Solitude at times, I will seek
It's the way to overcome stress, escape from loud noise, you will endure
