An Endless Cycle
Carissa M. Galow |
An endless cycle,
One you always win,
Your eyes,
They're memorizing,
Your voice,
You always know what to say,
You make people remember,
Why they care so much for you,
And, the fun lasts for awhile,
Just when they get used to it,
The tide changes,
The gears shift,
You become cold,
Your words,
Like daggers in the heart,
Penetrating,
Broken spirit,
You know just what to say,
To bring pain,
Whenever you somehow feel wronged,
You make it your mission,
To hurt them in return,
Even though sometimes,
They don't know what they've done,
And, then anger rushes in,
Side by side with the pain,
They think maybe they're better off without you,
And, after awhile,
They're used to life without you,
But, then, you come back,
And, again,
They remember,
Why they care so much for you,
They'd like to forget it all sometimes,
The pain, most of all,
But, to forget,
Would mean to forget the beauty you brought them,
Beauty and pain,
Both things you know so well,
Do you know the spell you've cast on them?
Do you know the pain you've caused?
Do you know the joy you've brought?
Or are you blissfully unaware?
Unaware of the power you wield,
Over many hearts,
Either way,
You're dangerous,
They should run,
We should run,
But, we find ourselves weighted down,
Unable to break free,
You've mastered this game,
If only,
We could find the cheat codes,
And, get out,
Will we ever get out?
An endless cycle,
We're hoping to break the chain,
Disrupt the cycle,
Break free,
But, do we have the strength?
