Wilted Flowers
Roger Belton |
Life is filled with special events;
Moments that leave indelible imprints.
From learning to walk to riding a bike,
To trying new things to find what we like.
Each day moves forward, ever so slowly it seems,
While we constantly refine our hopes and dreams.
Then one day, almost without warning
We open our eyes to find it's no longer morning.
Our life, like the day, has moved far along,
Leaving us longing for yesterday's song.
Only moments ago I was young and carefree,
With an exciting future beckoning to me.
But now that future has become the past,
And I mourn those things that failed to last.
I long for time spent with mom and with dad,
And regret those times I made them sad.
Oh, to return to those happier hours,
To enjoy again those long-wilted flowers.
