Sweet Daddy
Colette M. Friedman

There you are, I see you standing…
Your voice soft and commanding…
You face calm, and undemanding…
You words, grand and caring…
Your smile, cordial and always sharing…

Oh, Daddy….sweet Daddy….
I love you so… today I surrender you sadly
No matter it sundown or crack of day
I will always love you…and miss you
…so far now… so far away….

Dreaming the years, the memories we lead
Now only photographs living inside my head
The play, the pool, my 1st bicycle ride
The game, the win, my patient guide

Oh, Daddy, sweet Daddy….
I love you so…. I surrender you sadly
It is with a heavy heart I hold you gladly
It is with a selfish mind I release you badly
For I will never, not ever love another one so dear
Never, not ever… cry one empty tear
A lasting toast, a shout out, one more ball game cheer
For our family will be amiss without your presence right here
You worked hard to pay the bills and keep our family free
To once again grab the arm and hold the hand I still see
To once again feel the completeness I hold sacred inside me

Oh, Daddy, sweet Daddy….
I love you so… today I surrender you sadly
No matter it sundown or crack of day
I will always love you and miss you
…so far now….so far away….

And the years will pass…pass as they're expected to do…
But a smile will always linger across my lips in loving memory of you…

My Daddy, sweet Daddy….
I will always love you….
