A picture of pure innocence,
cozy in her favorite chair,
rays of golden sunlight glistening
off her auburn hair.
Snuggled under her blanket,
she sleeps in peaceful grace.
A tender Mona Lisa smile
adorns her pretty face.
Floating on dream swept moments,
burdens fade without a trace.
Dancing with the angels
I know that she must be.
A radiant smile which warms
a thousand hearts has she.
The laughter in her sparkling eyes
reflects the brilliance of her soul.
Elated, she swirls and waltzes
beneath a heavenly crown of gold.
My heart fills with tenderness
for this child whose life I hold.
For twenty-two years I've nurtured,
protected and watched her grow.
Why God made her a "special child"
is a secret I will never know.
Long ago the hardened hands of fate
proved harsh and so unkind;
now, granted the gifts of womanhood,
still childlike remains her mind.
Love, warmth and acceptance is
simply all she hopes to find.
Given to me as the Lord saw fit
and placed within my arms;
bestowed to me a precious gift
to protect & keep from harm.
Forever it'll be an enigma
what the good Lord saw in me.
But I question not his wisdom
for he chose this to be.
Perhaps it was my calling
and not such a mystery.
In wonder I gaze upon her
as she opens her fawn-like eyes.
I recall years of medical
reasoning I came to so despise,
the wills and wonts of what she'd be,
but she amazed them all the while.
"I love you momma" she intercedes
with her knowing little smile.
She grew up to be so much more;
this strong and spirited child.
Hordes of trials and tribulations
we've had without a doubt.
This child that should not be here
now happily moves about.
She stands before us living proof
miracles truly do exist.
Her contagious smile and rosebud cheeks
near no one could resist.
This innocent presence into my heart
has left my world so blessed.
