Monarch Butterfly
Richard J. Withrow |
Ant antennas pointed and perched
Taking their seats on costly blades of grass
All eyes lift upwards
Into the trees and behind the leaves,
I'm inside my cacoon, inside my cage
The sun is settling, I'm ready to bloom
My colorful wings bring the crowds to their feet
From nameless to famous,
I give them hope, I give them dreams
I am the monarch butterfly signing off
All the ants leave the orchard and proceed to their holes
The little kids pretending to soar with their plastic wings
