The Beast Acometh
Kenneth Brown

His victim lies still, in the dark of the night
the beast unaware of her pain or her fright
Craftily as a cat, he moves down the hall
the child awaits for the beast to come call
He knows the places that creak in the boards
he knows them too well, he's been here before

She stares out the window, at stars in the sky
and poses her question to God, as to why
The beast hears her prayers, as he crosses her door
he says to her shh, or you'll wake the whole floor
She wonders why, he hates her so much
though he tries to convince her, its done out of love

Her curtain is open, the moon is aglow
the beast draws her in, her tears start to flow
She closes her eyes and prays for the day
because every morning the beast goes away
Though she cries in the night, he tells her to hush
and so once again, she'll endure the beast's touch

Sometimes...like this night, when the moonlight shines in
the beast looks like daddy, but that couldn't be him
Like always...when he's done, he'll take her small hand
beg don't tell your mom, she would not understand
and so she'll oblige, his secret she'll keep
He's the beast that acometh, while the house is asleep
