Ode To Teddie
Roger Belton |
In the late Fall, way back in 1994,
A beautiful female strutted through my door.
With her hair of red (and a little black & tan),
She was destined to be part of my every plan.
It took her some time to adjust to living there with me;
But, by and by, she relaxed, obviously feeling free.
I took time to walk with her frequently during the day;
And discovered her tendency for frolic and for play.
Over the years, she became my very reason to be,
Always staying nearby, always close by me.
She seemed to be content with my touch to head or ear,
And always seemed to leap joyfully when my voice she'd hear.
She was such a comforting presence, a calming balm in strife;
And no one else could bring such peace, such joy into my life.
Her love was unconditional; no strings, no gimmicks, no sham;
All she asked was my attention, to be near me wherever I am.
Even when she slept, she'd often raise her head to see
If I was still there beside her, where she wanted me to be.
If she found that I wasn't there, had moved from her sight,
She'd get immediately to her feet, searching to left and right.
Wherever she'd find me, all, once again, was as it should be;
She'd lay down beside me, content being by my knee.
For almost 14 years she's been such a joy amid life’s strife;
Until this very week, when illness took her precious doggie life.
In honor of a wonderful family dog...she's missed so very much.
