Searching For Doggie-Right
Roger Belton |
Since I'm in the market for a family pet,
I ponder just what kind of dog to get.
A casual review of any doggie manual
Reveals countless types, from boxer to spaniel.
The choices seem endless, what a quandary,
For such an avid dog lover, a guy like me.
I s'pose I'll need to define the characteristics I seek,
Before I venture out for a definitive peek.
The ideal pooch must have a tail to wag;
For I find wigglin' nubs to be a sad-looking drag.
And then, too, it must have a real canine snout,
A definite nose that from its face stands out.
As for the ears, well long and floppy are the best,
But, so long's they're soft I'll consider all the rest.
A friendly disposition is a must, of course;
And as for size, it must be smaller than a horse.
Color matters little in this animal equation;
Red, white, brown, or black…or any combination.
It must enjoy being loved, hugged, and taking a walk,
And react to my voice as if understanding my talk.
In short, I want a furry friend, loyal and true,
To brighten my life when things look blue.
