I didn't beg to be born
into this dark heart of the earth
I didn't beg to be born
into this land of still breathe.
I shed my infant tears for unknown joy and fear
on this strange dark path of my own
Yet l had to learn to bear
the plung of darkness in my dark whitish heart alone.
If time still thick and my wills
still run through my blood
I will bring down the sun and place it a little above my dark hills
By my infant tears: l swear
I will light up Africa-against all fears
